Ndue Përlleshi was a Kosovar-Albanian military leader, local and national hero, known as "Trimi i Dukagjinit". He was the Commander of the "Dukagjini Band" during World War II. On 8 March 1948, during the Battle of Bokshiq, Ndue Përlleshi, along Shaban Dema and Ndrec Nikolla, fought Montenegrin and Albanian communist forces numbering 600. Përlleshi killed 27 communists, and wounded many others, and both his comrades died. He survived with four wounds and returned to his home until Janko Boric, the local community leader, spotted him and threw a grenade through his window. Përlleshi quickly grabbed it and tossed it back to Boric wounding him. Ndue Përlleshi was killed on 29 August, 1949 in Albania by the communist forces of Mehmet Shehu. Ndue Përlleshi is a much honoured hero amongst the Albanians of Dukagjin and Peja-region. He is mentioned in Albanian epic folklore.

Ukshin Hoti was a Kosovo Albanian philosopher and activist. Hoti was a professor of international law and later philosophy at the University of Pristina and founder of UNIKOMB, a political party of Kosovo. Since 1982 he had been arrested several times by Yugoslav authorities. In 1994 he was convicted to five years in the Dubrava prison. In May 1999, when his sentence ended and he was to be released, the prison guards transferred him to an unknown location. His whereabouts remain unknown and many human rights activists consider him dead.

Idriz Seferi was an Albanian leader and guerrilla fighter (rebel). During his 56-year military career, he fought in 35 battles. A member of the League of Prizren and League of Peja, he was the right-hand man of Isa Boletini, with whom he organized the 1910 Uprising against the Ottoman Empire in the Kosovo Vilayet. After the suppression of the uprising, Seferi continued warfare, in the 1912 Uprising. In the First Balkan War, Boletini and Seferi rose up against Serbia, with whom they had previously been allies to during the 1910 and 1912 Uprisings, and continued to attack Serbian posts in the subsequent occupation and initial phase of World War I (1913–1915). In the second phase of the war (1916–1918), he led troops against Bulgarian forces.

Selman Kadri Hasanaj (1906–1938), known as Selman Kadria, was an ethnic Albanian land worker and folk singer from the village of Cerrca in Istog, present-day Kosovo. He was linked with the Albanian independence movement in Kosovo. In 1938, he killed the Yugoslav Serbian Chetnik vojvoda (captain), Milić Krstić for his repressive measures against local Albanians. A few months later, he was himself killed. Numerous folk songs have been composed for his deed. His tomb in Cerrca has become a monument and in June 2019, the constitutional process for him to be named Hero of Kosovo began.

Enver Hadri was a Kosovo Albanian human rights activist. According to an Albanian blog AACL, he was assassinated while he stopped at a traffic light in Brussels, by three Yugoslavs working for State Security Administration (UDBA) according to the verdict handed down on Mardi, Veselin Vukotic and Andrija Draskovic were found guilty of carrying out the crime and Bozidar Spacic of ordering it. This happened in the commune of Saint-Gilles, at the crossroads between the rue St Bernard and the rue de la Victoire. Hadri had with him the list of 32 Albanians killed in Kosovo by Serbia, which he would submit to the European Parliament's Human Rights Committee the next day. He lived in Brussels since 1972 where he worked to put on agenda the human rights of Albanians in Kosovo.

Highly active in cases of human rights abuses in Kosovo, Çaushi was the dean of the school of law of the University of Pristina and the first head of the Independent Jurists of Kosovo. During the NATO bombing of Yugoslavia he was abducted by Yugoslav forces and held in prisons in Serbia. Çaushi's state was unknown until 2005 when his remains were found and identified. His body was returned to Kosovo, where he was reburied with presidential honours.

He was author of the Cuneus Prophetarum, 1685, the first prose work of substance written originally in (Gheg) Albanian. He organized a resistance against the Ottomans and a pro-Austrian movement in Kosovo in 1689 that included Muslim and Christian Albanians.

Ali Pasha, or Ali Pasha of Tepelena, commonly known as Ali Pasha of Ioannina, was an Albanian ruler who served as Ottoman pasha of the Pashalik of Yanina, a large part of western Rumelia. Under his rule, it acquired a high degree of autonomy and even managed to stay de facto independent. The capital of the Pashalik was Ioannina, which, along with Tepelena, was Ali's headquarters. Conceiving his territory in increasingly independent terms, Ali Pasha's correspondence and foreign Western correspondence frequently refer to the territories under Ali's control as "Albania." This, by Ali's definition, included central and southern Albania, and parts of mainland Greece; in particular, most of the district of Epirus and the western parts of Thessaly and Macedonia. He managed to stretch his control over the sanjaks of Yanina, Delvina, Vlora and Berat, Elbasan, Ohrid and Monastir, Görice, and Tirhala. Ali was granted the Sanjak of Tirhala in 1787, and he delegated its government in 1788 to his second-born Veli Pasha, who also became Pasha of the Morea Eyalet in 1807. Ali's eldest son, Muhtar Pasha, was granted the Sanjak of Karli-Eli and the Sanjak of Eğriboz in 1792, stretching for the first time Ali's control down to Livadia and the Gulf of Corinth, except Attica. Muhtar Pasha also became governor of the Sanjak of Ohrid in 1796–7 and of the Sanjak of Vlora and Berat in 1810.

In the following decades, he became a rallying figure of the Albanian independence movement and a much-celebrated character in multiple important works in Albanian literature.

Bekim Berisha was a Kosovo Albanian soldier who gained prominence in the Yugoslav Wars. He served in the Croatian Army during the Croatian War of Independence. He subsequently fought in the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and later also in the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA), where he was named a general. He was killed in 1998, during the Battle of Junik, and was posthumously promoted to Brigadier General.
