Babak Khorramdin

Babak Khorramdin 6 Bābak Khorramdin was one of the main Iranian revolutionary leaders of the Iranian Khorram-Dinān, which was a local freedom movement fighting the Abbasid Caliphate. Khorramdin appears to be a compound analogous to dorustdin "orthodoxy" and Behdin "Good Religion" (Zoroastrianism), and are considered an offshoot of neo-Mazdakism. Babak's Iranianizing rebellion, from its base in Azerbaijan in northwestern Iran, called for a return of the political glories of the Iranian past. The Khorramdin rebellion of Babak spread to the Western and Central parts of Iran and lasted more than twenty years before it was defeated when Babak was betrayed. Babak's uprising showed the continuing strength in Azerbaijan of ancestral Iranian local feelings.

In his satirical poems and fables Seyid Azim Shirvani ridiculed priesthood, opposed backwardness and ignorance, called to enlightenment and culture. Contemporary poets consider him their teacher.

Mahammad Amin Rasulzade

He is mainly considered the founder of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic in 1918 and the father of its statehood. His expression "Bir kərə yüksələn bayraq, bir daha enməz!" became the motto of the independence movement in Azerbaijan in the early 20th century.

Ibrahim Dadashov

Ibrahim Dadashov 2 Ibrahim Pasha-ogly Dadashov was an Azerbaijani and Soviet featherweight freestyle wrestler. He competed for the Soviet Union at the 1952 Summer Olympics, but was eliminated after four bouts. Domestically he won the Soviet title in 1949, 1951, 1952 and 1956, placing second in 1954–55, and third in 1950. After retiring from competitions he worked as a wrestling coach. Najafgulu Rafiyev

Najafgulu Rafiyev 2 Najafgulu Radzhabali oglu Rafiyev was an Azerbaijani Soviet Army major and a Hero of the Soviet Union. Rafiyev was awarded the title for the leadership of his tank platoon during Operation Bagration. During the battle, his platoon cut of the German escape route after crossing the Ptsich and moving across the Bobruisk–Glusk highway. The platoon subsequently helped capture Baranovichi. Postwar, Rafiyev continued to serve in the army and retired in 1956. He lived in Baku.

Gulara Gadirbeyova

Gulara Gadirbeyova 2 Gulara Ibrahimkhalil gizi Gadirbeyova was an Azerbaijani women's rights activist and politician (Communist). She was engaged in pedagogy and also in journalism, being the author of several articles in various publications. She became the editor-in-chief of the first women's magazine in Azerbaijan, "Sharg gadini" (1923–1937). Gulara Gadirbeyova was also the chairperson of the Ali Bayramov Club, the organization of the Azerbaijani women's movement, in 1930–1937.

Gazanfar Musabekov

Gazanfar Musabekov 2 Gazanfar Mahmud oghlu Musabeyov or Musabekov was an Azerbaijani Bolshevik revolutionary and Soviet statesman. He was Chairman of the Central Executive Committee of the Azerbaijan SSR from 1929 to 1931, and he headed the government of the Transcaucasian SFSR from 1931 to 1936. During the Great Purge, Musabekov was arrested, accused of plotting against the Soviet state, sentenced to death and executed on 9 February 1938, after his mother. His sister Ayna Sultanova and brother-in-law Hamid Sultanov, both high ranking Azerbaijani Bolshevik revolutionaries and politicians, were also executed in 1938.
